My Story

“Don’t worry, it’s not cancer.”

The famous last words of the doctor before I left her office for an ultrasound appointment…a routine test that would soon turn my world upside down.

In May 2009, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was 39 years old, there was no history of breast cancer in my family, and I was otherwise fit and healthy.

On 28th July 2010, I began writing this blog, "Life's like a Cupcake!"  It became my therapy and a way of journaling all the things I love about life with my God, my husband, my two children, large extended family and close friends.

I love writing, but I also love life. So forgive me if I'm not forever posting here on my blog. These days, I only publish a new post when I have something I really need to get off my chest, or I have an utterly important can't-wait-to-tell-you snippet to share!

If you've been following my blog for a while, or even if you've just begun, you may notice that I'm a bit of a dreamer. I dream of gallivanting non-stop around this amazing globe of ours. I dream of being an eyewitness to all of my children's hopes, dreams and potential coming to fruition. And I dream of growing old and grey with my husband, the love of my life since I was 15 years old. (Yes, we met when I was 15, but that's a secret just between us okay? One I don't like to constantly broadcast to my 15 year old daughter!)

I had a dream that I would run a marathon one day...and in April 2012, my dream came true. Not only did I participate in a marathon, but I did it in one of the most beautiful cities in the world...Paris! You can read more about that dream here.

I also have another dream close to my heart...a dream that somewhere, there is some fabulously magnificent scientist, brewing a brilliantly mind-blowing idea, who will make a discovery that will change our world forever. I believe that some day, someone will discover a cure for breast cancer.

But brilliant scientific discoveries don't come cheap. This is why I am committed to my role as  National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) Ambassador, and will use my story as a breast cancer survivor, to help NBCF researchers reach their goal of 'zero breast cancer deaths by 2030'.

You will often read about some plan I'm concocting to raise funds for the NBCF, in support of breast cancer research. So whenever you hear about one of my fundraising ideas, which are often a bit hair-brain and out of the ordinary, please support me in some way. Even if it's just to cheer me on with an encouraging word or two. I would love to hear from you via email at jen@jenniferreid.com.au or on my Facebook Page.

Thank you so much for dropping by!
